The Royal Yacht Squadron of Cowes, Isle of Wight, organised the schooner yacht Aurora in the first race around the Isle of Wight in 1851 against the American schooner America. Their defeat established the Deed of Gift and launched the America's Cup. The RYS is the oldest yacht club associated with the Cup's origin.
